JAMES AND HAILEY DID THE JOB
Alone Deserve Credit For First Capture in Eight Mogollon Murders in Two Years.

Mogollon, N. M., Feb. 27, 1912.

To the Editor of the Albuquerque Journal—Wishing to correct many inaccurate press accounts regarding the capture of Francisco Granado, and the killing of Juan Tarrango, Mexican bandits, who, on February 19th, killed C. A. Freeman and William Clark, and secured $3,700 from the till of the Mogollon Mercantile Company, we ask you to state that the capture was effected by Sheriff Emil James, of Socorro, and his deputy, Scott Hailey. No other officers, in the slightest degree, gave assistance. Mounted Policeman Beal, Deputy Sheriff Cipriano Baca and others, reported to have aided in the capture had no hand in the matter. Beal has not been in the district and Baca never left Mogollon.

Sheriff James was in Mogollon twenty-four hours after being notified and thirty-six hours after the killing James and Hailey were on the trail. There have been eight murders in this district in the last two years. Sheriff James made the first and only capture of a guilty party.
