YESTERDAY being the Anniversary Day, appointed by the Royal Charter for the Election of His Majesty's Councillors of the Province, the Great and General Court or Assembly met at the Court-House in Concord.
After the usual Oaths were administered to the Gentlemen who were returned to serve as Members of the Honourable House of Representatives, and the Declaration subscribed by them, they elected the Honorable Samuel White, Esq; for their Speaker, who being presented to His Excellency the Governor, for his Approbation, according to the Direction of the Royal Explanatory Charter, His Excellency was pleased to send a Message in writing to the House, signifying His Approbation of said Election: The House then made an unanimous Choice of Roland Cotton, Esq; for their Clerk.
In the Afternoon the following Gentlemen were elected Councillors for the Year ensuing, viz. For the late Colony of Massachusetts-Bay.
The Honourable Thomas Hutchinson, Esq; Israel Williams, Esq; Benjamin Lynde, Esq; Harrison Gray, Esq; Samuel Danforth, Esq; John Choate, Esq; Andrew Oliver, Esq; James Russell, Esq; Isaac Royall, Esq; Thomas Flucker, Esq; John Erving, Esq; Nathaniel Ropes, Esq; James Bowdoin, Esq; Timothy Paine, Esq; Thomas Hancock, Esq; *Timothy Ruggles, Esq; Thomas Hubbard, Esq; *Royall Tyler, Esq;
For the late Colony of Plymouth: George Leonard, Esq; James Otis, Esq; Gamaliel Bradford, Peter Oliver, Esq;
For the late Province of Main: John Hill, Esq; John Bradbury, Esq; Nathaniel Sparhawk, Esq;
For Sagadahock, William Brattle, Esq; it lorge; Benjamin Lincoln, Esq; *Edmond Trowbridge, Esq;
The Gentlemen with this (*) Mark are new Members.
Previous to the above Choice the Hon. John Osborne Esq; and the Hon. John Cushing, Esq; who had been chosen for several Years Members of His Majesty's Council, sent their Request to be excused that Service.
One Hundred and Ten Persons are Returned to serve as Representatives from the several Towns for the Ensuing Year; Thirty Eight of which Number were not of the House the last Year.
