Address to the People of Maryland.
The members of the legislature favorable to retrenchment and reform, have issued an address to the people of the state, which will be found in another part of to-day's paper. They declare, in explicit terms, that they have not been influenced by party considerations in the course which they have taken on these important measures, and recommend, that, at the next election, nominations for the Senate and House of Delegates be made of persons solemnly pledged to go in favor of retrenchment and reform, and without reference to party distinctions. With this recommendation we entirely concur, as well as in the statement that the objects in view can be effected only by means of a convention of the people. On these grounds let the battle be fought next fall, and we shall see whether the cause of the people will not be triumphant. We shall continue to go heart and hand in favor of the call of a convention; and as a majority of the members of the legislature which has just closed its session have refused to permit public sentiment to be expressed directly for or against a convention, let the question be tried in the election of senators and delegates who are to be chosen at the election next fall.
We received a copy of the address on Tuesday evening, but too late for yesterday's paper. We commend the address to public attention.
