WL00 Near st
A gentleman, returning from the city to his home night before last, when about two miles from Brentwood on the Wilson pike, discovered a negro woman lying on the road, who had been shot through the thigh. She was conveyed to a house near Brentwood, where she was properly attended to. The woman then stated that while returning in company with her husband, Jas. Drake, from picking cotton in a field belonging to Mr. Davis, they were fired upon by two persons, of whom she was unable to give the slightest description, and that she thought her husband was shot dead. Search was made for the body that night but it was not found until yesterday morning, when it was discovered that a pistol shot had entered near the region of the heart, passing through the body, and which must have caused death almost instantaneously. No clue has been found to the murderers. A verdict was yesterday rendered in accordance with the above facts.
