PHILADELPHIA, June 9

As Mr. Alexander Brown, of Somerset county, New-Jersey, was on his way to this city on Friday last, about 4 o'clock P. M. he stopped at the inn (on the Bristol road) about six miles from town. After paying his reckoning, and just setting off, two men well dressed came out of the inn, and asking him if he was for Philadelphia, telling him if he was, they would be company; he informed them, he was always happy to have good company, and accordingly they all then set off with the greatest civility, until they came to a wood, about three quarters of a mile from the inn ; when suddenly one of the villains presented a pistol to Mr. Brown's breast and told him, if he did not deliver all the money he had, he was a dead man. Mr. Brown having nothing to defend himself, was obliged to deliver his pocket book, with 20 dollars specie and 5 dollars Jersey paper money, with papers of not much value, and left him possessed only of a few coppers. As soon as they had accomplished their purpose, they leaped their horses over the fence, and went through the wood as fast as they could ride. One of the villains rode a bay horse with one hind foot white, about fourteen hands and a half high ; had on a light blue coat, spotted velvet waistcoat, and velvet breeches ; appeared about 23 or 24 years of age, middle stature. The other had on a dark brown coat, and rode a brown horse, with a star in his forehead, about fifteen hands high. Both the villains had boots and spurs on.
