Full Text

Milledgeville, (Geo.) Feb. 7.

Judge Toulmin, it appears, from an article in the St. Stephen's Halcyon of the 12th January, has taken the greatest pains to ascertain the real state of the settlers of the public lands, and more particularly as it relates to any interference with the claims of half breeds. It was found that great difficulties presented themselves as to the principles on which Indian claims were to be admitted, as to the exact position of their lands, where the claims were indisputable; and the Judge urged in the strongest terms, to the General commanding the District, the propriety of suspending all military interference until Government should settle those points, and place the principles of Indian reservation on a proper basis. -The officer commanding that district, has declined giving any orders for the removal of settlers of public lands till he hears from Washington. -[Argus.
