St. Michaels Summer Program Attracts Volunteer Support
Twenty-five young men and women have volunteered their services for seven weeks at St. Michael Mission, St. Michaels, Arizona. They arrived June 13 to begin their work.
After a four-day orientation program, they were given tasks in the summer program organized for the Navajo children. They form the staff for programs centered at St. Michaels, Oak Springs, Sawmill, Klagetoh and the Catholic Indian Center, Gallup. More than 500 children have signed up to take part in the programs.
Each day the children come from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to take part in the well-supervised activities.
The climax of the summer school program will be the Third Annual Navajo Catholic Festival, St. Michael Mission, St. Michaels, Arizona, July 29. This program was initiated four years ago by Miss Patricia Doerger. Each year it has grown, and Miss Doerger is still directing it.
