Full Text

Not Dead Yet.

The friends of the proposed railroad on the West side of the Monongahela are again showing some activity and confidence in that enterprise.

This is only one of the evidences that if railroads are not actually reaching out after the resources of this section that, at least, capitalists discern enough to convince them that they would pay if built. It is the assurance that at some future time railroads will be built into this valley. Morgantown is destined to become a center of railroad enterprise. The only question is how long these enterprises will sleep. There is no question but that at some day they will wake up.

A parallel line on the opposite side of the river would not be of any very special convenience to us just now. One road is ample for all our concerns. But the great advantage would accrue in developing the whole line of the Monongahela river from its source to its mouth. Population would flow into this section; towns would spring up, and manufactories would dot the whole river bottom. For, the building of another railroad on the West side would give us an immediate extension of the F. M. & P. to Uniontown, and the two roads would be the assurance for capital to embark in any enterprise that might be suggested and which the natural resources of the Monongahela valley would warrant.
