The club women of the state have come and gone. The majority expressed themselves as being well pleased with their visit. After the fight was over, and peace and quiet reigned once more, there was a general feeling that the best thing to do was to work in harmony with the newly elected president and wait for the meeting in 1903. The election in general was a great disappointment to the western members. While there is no complaint to make of the competency of Mrs. Bailey of Des Moines, yet the members of the federation in this part of the state felt that they were entitled to the presidency. True, it was an unwritten law that the office could not well go to Council Bluffs, but the members in this and other western cities were of the opinion that some western town should have been honored. Much bitterness exists against Des Moines. It is charged that the delegation from that city came here to manipulate the affairs of the federation and they came very near doing it. From the first it was evident that they intended to make a Des Moines woman president and the fact that there were two women from there who wanted the place came near precipitating a "scrap" on the convention floor. It was fought out in the committee room, however, and few there were who knew of the contest behind closed doors. Another determination of Des Moines was to secure the next meeting and this was done with apparent ease. The matter was left to the executive board. This board consists of the officers chosen. As it was Des Moines who practically named the officers it was quite natural that the convention should go there. The matter was decided at a meeting of the board yesterday forenoon at the Grand hotel. The argument was made that no small city in the state could take care of the delegates who would be in attendance at the next biennial. It is considered a great undertaking and the club women of Council Bluffs had their hands full this time. Next time the difficulty will be even greater, as the membership will be largely increased by then.
