NEW-YORK. March 19.

The bill "for the Gradual abolition of slavery," was taken up in the senate of this state on Tuesday last, in committee, Mr. Hatfield in the chair. A very lengthy and animated debate ensued, in which the principle, under certain modifications, was universally conceded. The speakers were Messrs. Jones, Addison Van Vechten, Cold, Clinton, Spencer, and Tillotson. The committee rose without coming to a decision. This bill has passed the assembly. It enacts that all children born of female slaves, after the 4th day of July next, shall be free, males at 28 years of age, and females at 25.
