The Girard Bank of Philadelphia has closed its doors. This has caused great excitement. It was the largest Bank in the city, and one of the greatest in the Union.

The next day in consequence of a rumor that the directors were carrying the property out of the back door, a mob assembled in the alley in the rear. The mayor was present and prevented it by his mild interference.

Philadelphia is now almost without a currency. The Bank of Pennsylvania has been closed by an injunction, and all the other banks are hard run. The brokers, and all men of business stand aghast.
