We hear from St. John's in Canada, that on the 22d of August last, the magazine within the garrison took fire by lightning: 676 barrels of powder were contained in the bomb proof, which providentially secured it from the fire: a large quantity of warlike stores, together with all the sails and rigging belonging to the shipping lately dismantled, were consumed. As soon as the lightning struck, the whole garrison, consisting of the 29th regiment and Rogers's corps, together with all the men belonging to the navy, and the inhabitants, immediately fled, and left the garrison, town, &c. to the fate of the magazine.
