Full Text
We have heard some queer things about the resignation of the Post Master at Iowa City—C. Swan—in favor of his son,—Hawkeye.
We know not what wondrous stories the Hawkeye may have heard about this matter, as there are no bounds to many whigs' fancy for fabricating reports, but this we do know—Mr. Swan did not resign in favor of his son, or make any recommendation whatever for the appointment of a successor.—
Mr. S. knowing the propensities of some persons for multiplying small matters until they reach a mountain's size, took the precaution to secure evidence to disprove whatever prejudicial stories might be put in circulation, by sending his letter of resignation, unsealed, to the Postmaster at this place, with a request that he might examine the contents before sealing and forwarding the same. The letter was brief, tendering his resignation to the Department in respectful language. These are the facts, at the service of the Hawkeye.
