G. and H. Club,—The grape vine telegraph has brought us an item of news in reference to this Club which we have determined to publish, regardless of consequences. We give the dispatch in full:

Newburg Gossip, Dec. 7th.

Special to the Cedar Falls Gazette.

I have just come into possession of an item of news, which I hasten to transmit to you, though, of course, you must keep it a secret. There was recently held a secret convention of young ladies with fantastic toes, the proceedings of which were conducted in secret session. I gained admission by taking an oath to preserve secrecy, and of course you will say nothing more definite than that 'you understand.'

The convention first resolved that they were opposed to dancing, but on reconsideration and a telling speech from Miss Wn.L.sOMEBoDYnavEME, a very interesting girl, (whose father is said to be wealthy), the resolution was amended to read 'we are in favor of dancing.' Miss O. I. WoutplikeroMarry here sang a sentimental song, which affected the convention to tears. Miss W. cried, too. Miss Goopsesse wanted to know if there was any business. Miss Gassy should think there was. A number of important speeches were then made, after which order was called for by the President. Miss Fonrr. as no motion was before the house. Miss Sw ErTsixreen offered the following resolutions:

Resolved, That it is the sense of this Convention of young ladies, that no gentleman ought to be snubbed by one of our sex, who, twice or more in succession at.

tends the G. and H. Club without a partner.

Resolved, That we severely censure, and will never marry, gentlemen who customarily attend such places of amusement without lady-companionship.

These resolutions were discussed at length, and after striking out on motion of Miss LEviescy, the reference to marriage in the second resolution, they were unanimously adopted. Miss Justice made an effective speech, in which she took the advanced ground that the Club ought to declare that no gentleman would be admitted to meetings unattended by a lady.

I wish the gentlemen could all be brought to a realizing sense of their duty; but, for mercy's sake, don't tell them of this meeting.
