Painful Rumor—Colonel Hays—The steamer Fanny, Captain Scott, arrived at New Orleans on the 17th, from Corpus Christi, having sailed from St. Joseph's Island on the 13th instant. The New Orleans Crescent says: "From her passengers we learn that about an hour before they left Corpus Christi, on the 16th inst., a report reached town that Col. Hays and his command had been cut to pieces by Gen. Urrea, at a town on the Rio Grande. It was represented that Gen. Urrea mistook Col. Hays and his men for a band of robbers, who a few days preceding, had pillaged the town, and for whom Colonel Hays was lying expressly in wait. The rumor requires confirmation."
