THIS DAY, consecrated to Freedom, dawns upon a great and prosperous nation, destined, we trust, to endure for ages, with one Country, one Constitution, one Destiny. However much we may be divided by political, local, or religious differences of opinion, we are yet, and, esto perpetua! for all national, and social purposes, a united people. We may all, with brotherly feeling for our neighbors, be well content to agree to disagree, and thank a kind and beneficent Providence for casting our lot in a land of Liberty, where each man can exercise his own rights of opinion, with no one to molest or make him afraid. With this feeling, and these sentiments, let the Day be celebrated-joyously-but with that temperance and dignity, that befit the citizens of a Free Republic.
