A dead man was found floating in Potowmack river opposite to Alexandria with several great marks of violence. He was five feet 7 or 8 inches high, had a short nose, short curled hair of a light chesnut colour, wore a blue and white check shirt, purple or deep claret colour'd breeches with silk knee bands mended in the seat and a gore below the right pocket, country mixed stockings, and country made shoes. Coroner's inquest verdict: murder by a person or persons unknown.
