County Union Met With Jordan Local at Cain's Mill-Several Matters Discussed.
The County Farmers' Union held its regular monthly meeting with the Jordan local at Cain's Mill.
Several subjects of vital importance were discussed, among them being the "One Year Scholarship" to Clemson, The Cotton Marketing companies, and the contemplated issues to be brought before the State Union at its annual meeting to be held in Columbia, July 24, 25 and 26.
The scholarships to Clemson and a one-year scholarship to Winthrop do not seem to be much in demand, although Mrs. Beall, chairman of the educational committee, advertised two one-year scholarships to Clemson and a one-year scholarship to Winthrop. She reported only one application for the Clemson scholarship and no application for the Winthrop scholarship.
Messrs. J. Frank Williams, J. M. Brogdon and W. R. Wells were elected to attend the State Union as delegates from Sumter county.
The next regular meeting of the county union will be held at the new Baker school house with the recently organized local there on the first Friday of August, which comes on the first day of August this time.
The Clemson college extension work will hold an institute in connection with a farmers camp meeting on the 31st day of July and the first day of August at the new Baker school-house, five or six miles east of Sumter and three or four miles west of Mayesville. All of the farmers in the county are cordially invited to attend that they may hear experts on various lines of farming and go back to their homes determined to become up-to-date farmers, eradicate plant disease from the soil and cease robbing the soil of its fertility.
J. Frank Williams,
President County Farmers' Union.
