A corps of engineers arrived here Monday, and took rooms at the Downey House. The corps consists of twelve men. Early Tuesday morning they commenced to survey the proposed line of the Pittsburg, Washington & Southern railroad, or the Mannington extension of the W. & W. The work was commenced at the terminus of the W. & W. here, and will proceed to Blacksville via Smith Creek. The corps is under the care of Prof. John L. Johnston, of the West Va. University, and his assistants, F. G. Ross and C. McC. Lemley, two young men who just graduated from the University. Both are natives of this county, as is also Prof. Johnston. They are very clever gentlemen. The line is to be permanently located by this survey, and the profiles made complete. The work will occupy about seven weeks time. The people along the line will find the corps all gentlemen, and will accord them courteous treatment. Mr. John I. Worley, of Blacksville, who is closely identified with the enterprise, speaks very confidently that the road will be built. - Waynesburg Independent.
