Full Text

RETURNED.—A gentleman from up Sound informs us that the prospecting party which left Tumwater, a week or so ago, have returned from the Black Hills with a very fine prospect of shot gold. They report the hills, in the vicinity of their prospecting grounds, so deeply covered with underbrush and vine maple that it was almost impossible to make any headway. The bed rock is deep; what gold they got was taken some fifteen feet from the surface. Some of the boys feel very confident that the mine can be made to pay, while one of them, an old California miner, thinks that unless the precious metal can be found in larger quantities than what they 'struck,' that there is not much in it.
