NASHVILLE, Tenn., Aug. 7 (AP)
Tennessee Democrats today chose their nominee for junior United States Senator after a campaign marked by personalities and in two other state-wide contests nominated candidates for governor and for senator for the short term
In the Republican primary, held at the same time, there was a state wide contest only for the governorship nomination. In only three of the ten congressional districts were there contests, two being between Republicans and involving the state's only Republican representatives.
Andrew L. Todd and Representative Cordell Hull sought the long term senatorial nomination. Hull, 59 years old, has represented the fourth district for eleven terms, is a former chairman of the democratic national committee and was Tennessee's "favorite son" at the Houston convention two years ago.
Todd, 56, is a capitalist and landowner.
David W. Dodson, Nashville educator, contested with Todd and Hull but expressed no hope for nomination, which by plurality.
