PORTS MOUTH, July 16:

Messieurs FOWLE,

Please to give the following a Place in your GAZETTE.

Wise Men foresee the Evil, and hide themselves.

As the gloomy Aspect of public Affairs in the British Empire, now engages the Attention of every Man who is not totally dead to every noble Sentiment, it is justly expected of all, who would not be numbered among the Tories, that they now stand forth, speak, and act, as becometh Men, and Christians, Englishmen, and Friends to LIBERTY.----All who are silent and inactive at this important Crisis, must be esteemed Enemies to the Liberties of their Country; for they who are not for us, are against us.----

The golden Maxim, "By uniting we stand, by dividing we fall," should always be kept in Mind; this is the grand Hinge on which the Liberties of America turn, and ought to lie deep in the Heart of every Friend to America. UNION is the Foundation whereupon to build all our Hopes of Freedom.-- Our Enemies on both Sides the Atlantic, are too sensible of this, and therefore they have bent all their Force to destroy the Union of the Colonies; and although the evil Counsel of those Ahithophels has not so far prevailed as to effect their Design, yet we cannot but lament the baleful Influence it has had in some Places, in deterring the Friends of the British Constitution from acting so vigorously as otherwise they would have done, and thereby greatly injured the glorious Cause. It has been asserted by some, "That none but the Merchants have a Right to them, and no one else has any Concern with it." Which is as much as to say, "That it lies entirely with the Merchants to urge the Non-Importation of British Goods, that it concerns not the Liberties of the People, provided they can be Gainers by it."---But such Absurdities are too big to be swallowed by this enlightened Generation. Liberty is a common Concern, and every Man has an undoubted Right to use his utmost Endeavors to preserve this precious Gift of Heaven." And as a Meeting for this Purpose, is to be held in this Town on Tuesday next, it is expected, that every Man who regards the Welfare of his Country, will give his Attendance, and act with those noble Views, that Firmness, and Resolution, which are the Ornament of ENGLISHMEN, the Characteristic of FREEMEN, and the GLORY of any MAN.

Then we may expect to rear the Empire of LIBERTY in NEW-HAMPSHIRE;--- and that it will flourish here until TIME expires !--

A NEW-HAMPSHIRE MAN.
