The News from Spain continues to be favourable to the Constitutional cause, which may be collected from the Paris papers themselves, though it is well ascertained that even the most liberal of them dare not tell truth to the full extent of that virtue. A very important feature in the news, is THE REFUSAL OF the British Government to acknowledge THE REGENCY OF MADRID, and the contempt entertained for that self-created authority by the Cabinet of St. James'; so pointedly conveyed by Mr. Canning in returning the letter addressed to the King, by the Faction under the direction of the Duke D'Angouleme. Never was there a document coming from a body calling itself the government of a country, treated with more decided, unequivocal contempt. So cheaply did the members of the British Cabinet hold it and determined were they to mark their contempt of its authors, that Mr. Canning states it to be inconsistent with their duty even to lay the letter before the king. They do not as in other cases say they "have taken his Majesty's commands" and return an answer accordingly, but refuse to let it insult the royal presence, and return the letter! This is very important-it will make a great sensation in Spain-this and the arrival of the British Minister in Cadiz will infuse new spirit into the Cortes and all the Constitutional Chiefs, and will prove more really useful than a victory in the field. The news in other respects, as it relates to the reported movements of the army under Ballasteros, that of the French before Cadiz, the junction of Quiroga and Sir Robert Wilson, and the rumour of a Spanish victory near Corunna, which we think probable, is altogether flattering, as our readers may discover from the details, though principally derived from French sources.
