New Terminal To Be Occupied On Mon. by Airlines
Alaska Airlines is moving this weekend to its new location at Nome Field., and will be open for business Monday at the new terminal.
Wien Airlines will also operate out of the new terminal, and has announced that the present old PAA terminal will be closed on Monday.
The renovation of the old Marks Air Force Base hangar, began several months ago by Glenn Snyder Construction Co.
The vast waiting room, over 75 feet long. has thermopane picture windows completely across the runway, or north side, of the building.
The town entrance is being completed on the east side of the building.
Overlooking the airport on the second level, an airport lunchroom is planned, however, no one has applied as yet for a lease on that concession.
A hotel is also in the planning for the second floor of the building, and plans are now in the hands of the architects.
The Terminal is finished in soft yellow and brown, with acoustical tile ceilings. cork walls and wood-grain inlaid tile floors and wainscoting. Counter tops are of Philippine mahogany grained Formica.
Late this month there will be a grand opening with a delegation of officials from the states, newsmen and photographers as well as representatives from other airlines. At that time the new DC6C "Golden Nugget" will arrive here on its initial flight to Nome.
A big celebration is being planned.
