When a man gives up a lucrative law practice to accept a place on the bench, and then makes good in that position, he should be retained in office. Warren H. Lewis declared to a gathering of fifty attorneys at the Hotel Butler in Seattle Tuesday noon. He was speaking particularly of Judge James B. Kinne, candidate to succeed himself for position No 13 on the Superior court.
"There is no reason for making a change at the present time," said Mr. Lewis. "Judge Kinne has more than made good. He has proved impartial, able, and hard-working. He is at an age which best fits him for useful service on the bench. He had a wide experience as a practicing lawyer before he donned his robes, and his experience since he became judge has amply fitted him to continue with his duties. It looks as if he will be given a splendid endorsement at the primaries September 14, and at the general election November 2."
The fifty men present at the luncheon were part of a group of more than 300 leading Seattle attorneys who have endorsed the candidacy of Judge Kinne. They talked over plans for furthering his campaign. Mr. Lewis presided, and short talks were made by J. Y. C. Kellogg, Donald A. McDonald, George Mathieu, Clem Whittemore, Roy Erford, R. J. Meakin, George Harroun, Grover Desmond, L. C. Stevenson, and others. Both of the major parties and all shades of political opinion were represented.
