Full Text
The Philadelphia Times. This journal assures us that it has joined no "unholy alliance," and that as regards a tariff, it has always been opposed to high duties. Of course we are bound to believe what it asserts, as it is presumed to know more about the matter than ourselves, but we are at a loss to find out from whom it purchases "the news forwarded by the Telegraph." What huckster is it that has set up shop, and by an exclusive use of the telegraph, is enabled to retail out, for a certain sum of money, all intelligence received by it. Is he not a free trade man—one who is constantly harping upon monopolies, and cautioning the people to beware of their dangerous tendencies. As the Times asserts that it does not belong to this new monopoly—this "unholy alliance," we presume it is at liberty to say from whom it purchases the news, if not from the combination referred to.
