Full Text

The fisheries on the western coast of Scotland have this year been attended with uncommon success; the bank about 20 leagues to the south west of Campbeltown, in Argyleshire, being found to be so well stored with cod that a thousand ships of 200 tons might soon be sufficiently laden therewith. The fisheries on the eastern coast are also greatly improved, as new discoveries are every year made of rich banks of cod and ling amongst the northern isles, where fine herrings are likewise taken in great plenty. And on both coasts great improvements have been made in salting the fish, both as to quality and expedition.
