Hudson Forced to Yield.—Hudson has been forced to yield to the law. For weeks past he did all in his power to keep Curry and his understrappers in office, but yesterday he gave notice that none but General Wright should be recognized as Sheriff; that his deputies should be obeyed; and that the orders of Curry were null and void. The matter arose in the Criminal Court upon the refusal of Francis and Cullen, two of Curry's jailers, to give to Sheriff Wright's deputy some prisoners ordered up for trial by Judge Hudson. The jailers were cited to appear for contempt of court, but Hudson, instead of fining them, gave them this advice: "General Wright and deputies have been recognized as officers of this court. This fact must have been known to Colonel Curry and his deputies. The court will impose no fine at present upon the defendants. The court could make an order upon the jailer to turn over the jail and prisoners to General Wright, but this is not necessary. This proceeding is notice to all that General Wright is recognized by this court as Sheriff. The only order the court can make at present is the usual verbal one to bring out prisoners. This proceeding is notice to all, and is sufficient notice to Colonel Curry and his deputies that General Wright is Sheriff." Hudson could have prevented considerable trouble if he had in the first instance, like the other judges, recognized Gen. Wright as the legal Sheriff. Why don't he make an order upon the jailer to turn over the jail and prisoners to Sheriff Wright? He ought to know by this time that it is necessary to do so. The county cannot much longer suffer the annoyance of such a Judge as Hudson on the bench. The next election will hash him.
