Full Text

Extract of a Letter from Lisbon, March 23.

"A very extraordinary event has happened lately here in regard to commerce. Some days ago French cloths were refused dispatch in the custom house and stopped; and since then a general order has been sent to that tribunal to stop all goods of French manufacture, which are either composed of wool, or have any mixture of that material in them: even their druggets are comprehended. You may easily conceive what an uproar this has occasioned among the French merchants; they have applied to their envoy here, who has sent home their case and written to his court for instructions."
