On Thursday Night between nine and ten, a Gentleman's Servant elevated with Liquor, with a long Lash Whip in his Hand walking through Southampton Buildings, Holbourn, did not scruple to lay it on People that were passing by. This Behaviour of Course gathered a Crowd, and when the Footman got to the Grotto Alehouse, the Landlord happened to come out, to whom he gave the Discipline of the Whip as he had done to others. The Landlord being a stout Man, collar'd him directly, kicked up his Heels, and rolled him in a Kennel, to the great Satisfaction of the Spectators. In the Scuffle the Footman lost his Whip, but after it was found he walked off sneakingly amidst the Hisses of the Crowd, in the dirty Condition that his Insolence deserved.
