Major Cecil M. Jackson commanding officer of the Savannah Area Command has announced the planned redesignation of the 407th Engineer Company (Panel Bridge) (USAR). This change in the United States Army Reserve, is in accordance with the reorganization of all units of the Reserve under the "pentomic" concept of organization now in effect in the Active Army.
The reorganized unit with headquarters in Savannah, will be trained in Amphibious transportation, and in case of national emergency would be qualified to take its place along side Active Army forces. Major Jackson paid tribute to the 407th Engineer Company under the capable leadership of Capt. Matthew H. Howard. Major Jackson further stated that the 407th Engineer Co. has always been known for its high morale, enthusiasm, proficiency, training and community spirit.
