Vocational Opportunity To Be Discussed At BTW

Throughout the week the Vocational Guidance Committee at Booker T. Washington High School will conduct several special programs in observance of the ninth Vocational Opportunity Campaign, sponsored by the National Urban League.

The sub-committee in charge of the program has secured the services of several outstanding speakers, who will address the students in special assembly programs.

In addition to the assembly programs the various homeroom teachers will devote a part of the homeroom period to guidance activities.

Likewise the various departments have been requested to conduct such activities as: dramatizing interview procedure for getting a job; filling out sample applications for jobs; preparing charts and graphs on vocations in which Atlanta Negroes are engaged; pointing out the occupational value the various courses.

The committee decided to use members of the faculty for the assembly programs on Monday and Tuesday, accordingly. Principal C. L. Harper, Assistant Principal C. N. Cornell and members of the committee will speak on these two days.

Wednesday afternoon at one o'clock Mr. H. W. Russell, of the Atlanta Life Insurance Company, will address the students. Prof. J. O. Slade, of the Department of Sociology, Morris Brown College, will address another group. Thursday morning at ten o'clock. Both speakers will center their addresses around opportunities for vocational training and opportunities for employment.

On Thursday afternoon at 1:45 o'clock, Mr. G. H. Clark, Chef in Charge, at Morris Brown College, will speak to a group of boys on the subject, "Commercial Dietetics, as a Vocation." Mr. Clark graduated from Tuskegee Institute in 1939, with a major in commercial dietetics, and prior to coming to Morris Brown was the chef at the Silver Bay Association, Lake George, N. Y.

Among the special features of the week will be the showing of vocational guidance films, under the supervision of J. Q. Caruthers, who is in charge of visual education at Washington High School. Mr. Caruthers has secured a fine collection of films, which will be shown to the students in the junior high department.
