THAW MUST NOW GO BACK
TO NEW YORK FOR TRIAL

Washington, Dec. 21.—Harry K. Thaw to-day lost his fight in the United States Supreme Court against his extradition. The court held that the celebrated prisoner should be turned over to New York authorities at once to answer to an indictment of conspiracy which grew out of his escape from Matteawan asylum.

Thaw made his escape on August 17, 1913, and after a sensational automobile dash to liberty, he was finally arrested in New Hampshire. The Governor granted his extradition, but the Federal Court held that he should be released. The case was then taken to the Supreme Court.

Legal authorities who have followed the case pointed out to-day that New York, with its custody of Thaw secure, might now direct his immediate trial for conspiracy or might annul the indictment and return the prisoner to Matteawan, or it might return him to the asylum in disregard of the indictment.
