From the LONDON PACKET.

"Tis godlike good to save a falling King."

MARVELL's Poem.

ruin, that I tremble for the bursting of the cloud! Hath M- no friends? Is every creature of the realm to partake of the bosom of advice, of truth and virtue, and be snatched by precepts and admonitions from ruin; and is he, whom the law hath made the governor of all, is he alone to be deceived, neglected, and abandoned? Hath he not the common advantages with his subjects of the private converse with his wife! Is she too so very blind to his future fortune and to his future fame, to let him go on hour by hour in error, and permit the foes of his country to surround his chambers? Hath he not the opportunity of all wives, when the night is still and the curtain is drawn, which shuts out the hurry and bustle of the world; then hath she not the happy opportunity of pouring the most cordial words into his ear, which must be attentive at such a time, and to such an adviser? If she does not do this, I grieve, and I lament the fate of the personage. It is said by you, Sir, that those who speak plainly and openly call themselves your best friends; but you believe them, you add again, to be your worst enemies. Amongst the rest I may be looked on as one foe; but remember, great Sir, you never had a poorer nor a truer subject in your realm; one, whose life he has devoted, and will ever devote for the public weal; one who never flattered like the brilliant stars that surround you; but one who dare stand in the gap when those stars hide their diminished heads, and shew himself the friend of his country, which is the strongest testimony of his being the friend of his King. Banish from your presence those flatterers, who are the scorpions of your peace and your fame, and will one day plant such a sting in your bosom as no antidote can relieve; fling them off, come forward like an Englishman, and save your country and America from a deluge of the ensanguined rivers of civil war.
