Full Text

A special meeting of the council was called this morning at 10:30 o'clock, and most of the members presented themselves. Mr. Ewing, of the Rock Island road, was present, and the meeting was called in order to adjust damage cases along this company's right-of-way through the city. The maps were gone over, and Mr. Ewing's ideas corresponded so closely with those of the members of the council that it was not necessary to even call the meeting to order, but both parties were satisfied with the condition of affairs. It was decided to call a meeting for next Monday evening, when Messrs. Lowe and Ewing will probably both be here, and all claims will be satisfactorily adjusted. This company have acted very honorably in their dealings, and only four appeal cases have been taken by the farmers where the road touches. In company with the city attorney, mayor and a few members of the council, Mr. Ewing visited the north part of town, his object being to have the buildings immediately north of the Mo. Pac. road between Santa Fe and Seventh street, where their depot buildings will be located, moved at once, to give the workmen an opportunity to go ahead. Mr. Ewing is a very pleasant gentleman, and is disposed to deal honorably with the people, and his company gives him the privilege of doing so. He will remain in the city until to-morrow morning.
