NEW YORK. (AP)—The Mutual Broadcasting system announced last night it had refused the request of the Republican National Committee for free time to answer President Truman's speech on the lifting of meat controls.
Robert D. Swezey, vice-president and general manager of the chain, said the network did not regard the President's speech as a political talk. He said the President made a report to the people in a period of emergency.
The American Broadcasting Company agreed to give free time at 4 p.m. (Nome time) tomorrow, the Republican speaker to be announced today.
The Columbia Broadcasting System gave free time last night to Carroll Reece, chairman of the Republican National committee.
