Full Text
On the morning of the 13th inst. a young man by the name of Jehoida Bevan, employed in tending the bark mill of Messrs. Wm. Edwards & Son, at Hunter, while in the act of descending from above the machinery (rather incautiously) caught his foot in the crackers, and was instantly drawn into them. Fortunately, another young man who was with him, seized him and held him fast till the crackers severed the foot from the leg just above the ankle joint, otherwise they would have drawn in the limb, and have produced almost instant death. The limb was afterwards amputated below the knee, and the young man is now doing well. Mr. Bevan is an Englishman by birth, about 23 years of age, and has not been long a resident in this country.
