Dance At Fort Peck Recreation Hall
Big Event On Saturday Evening
Measured by standards of attendance, accomplishment and enjoyment, the V.F.W. Northern Montana District convention held Saturday was one of the most successful in this vicinity to date.
Delegates began arriving Friday and continued all Saturday morning.
Main items of business were the election of district officers for the coming year and choice of meeting places for the fall and winter quarterly meetings. Guy A. Bradstreet was elected commander of the district.
He is past commander of the Fort Peck Post No. 3107, host for the occasion.
Other officers elected to district offices to serve during the coming term were: Jack Reed of Havre who moved up this time from junior vice commander to senior vice commander; D. J. Jacobson of Great Falls, junior vice commander; G. D. Bragg of Havre, chaplain, and M.J. Sorte of Scobey officer of the day.
Great Falls was chosen as the site of the fall meeting in October. and the other quarterly meetings will be held in Havre, Shelby and Scobey. The convention took on an international flavor with the appearance of 12 Canadian veterans under the leadership of Captain Dove of Bengough, Sask. Captain Dove is a former officer in the Princess Pat' regiment' and a short talk by him was thoroughly enjoyed. Among the other distinguished guests present were "Jack" England of Whitefish, department commander; Thomas O. Crady of the council of administration; "Bob" Merrill of Havre senior vice commander; Jack Reed of Havre, national committeeman and district junior vice commander for the past term; Ray Minard of Havre. and Claude Reeves state patriotic instructor and post commander at Fort Peck. Ray Blanchard of Great Falls, commander of the district, for the past term, was of course present, and turned the gavel over to Guy Bradstreet.
The ladies auxiliary met in Glasgow and had as guests the wives of the delegates. There was a large crowd present at the Methodist church where the tea was held, and a program of interest was held. At 2 the delegates and wives all gathered at the recreation hall at Fort Peck, and to the music of the Glasgow high school band under the direction of H. J. Schiesser. they ate a buffet lunch which had been specially prepared.
The fun never stopped but continued until about nine. when the dancing got under way.
The dance was open to the public, and the public took advantage of the opportunity. Hamilton and his orchestra played to one of the biggest dance crowds they have ever had. About 1 a. m. the installation of the local post auxiliary took place, The officers of this group are
President, Rose Marie Beede;
senior vice president. Vera Rosell;
junior vice president, Ruth Bradstreet;
treasurer, Emma Reeves;
chaplain, Nellie Mill; conductress Ernestine Wiley;
guard. Karen Charles;
historian, Ina Davidson;
patriotic instructor, Lovella Rohde
color bearer, Myrtle Brynilson;
musician, Frances Bradstreet.
The installation was very impressive and was enjoyed by all present.
Sunday morning was devoted to individually conducted tours over the project by men who work on the job and are well qualified to point out operations and all points of interest.
