Full Text

The Hon. E. B. Washburne corrects a statement in one of our Washington dispatches of Monday night that his motion to refer the President's late Special Message on Finance to a Select Committee was "laid on the table by a vote of 62 to 20." It was not laid on the table at all; but the Message in question was listened to by the House with profound attention, and the vote of the House refusing to order the previous question on its reference was not intended to express hostility or aversion, but simply to reserve the matter for further consideration.
