Assembly Meets In Special Session Today

The Virgin Islands Legislative Assembly opens here this morning in special session to act on a report submitted by its Organic Act Committee, and to consider an amendment to the divorce law.

A draft of organic act recommended by the committee proposes an elective governor in 1955, a 13 member legislature, including six from St. Thomas, an equal number from St. Croix and one from St. John, and return of the proceeds of the internal revenue taxes.

The Assembly will recommend a draft of its own, and take steps to push its recommendations through Congress.
