"By the last Ships arrived from India we have received a circumstantial Journal of all that has passed at Pondicherry, since the Defeat of the Nazir Jung, and the Elevation of Muzaffar Jung to the Throne of Golconda. This Journal comes down to the 15th of January last, and concludes thus:
Muzaffar Jung's Liberality extended to every one, during the short Stay he made here (Pondicherry): He gave 40,000 Rupees to our Troops, and assigned Pensions to the Principal Officers and Counsellors on the Revenues of the Province, the Churches and the Poor have also felt the Effects of his Generosity and Gratitude for the great Service done him by Mr. Dupleix. This Event has procured immense Riches to the Inhabitants of this City, and the Benefit of it will be felt there many Years. The Company's present Advantages, in Point of Trade, are solidly secured by the Donation of the City of Masulipatam, the Island of Divi, and their Dependencies."
