Perhaps no newspaper started in the middle west in recent years had had a more promising birth than the Minneapolis Star which began publication August 19. It is issued daily under the auspices of farmers and organized labor, and promises to be the most powerful weapon in Minnesota for holding Big Business at bay, awakening farmers and labor alike to the dangers the future holds in store for them, if the money octopus continues its domination of American political affairs.
The Star stands unique among all metropolitan dailies in the world because of the fact that on the day it was first issued the subscription list contained 60,000 paid-up subscribers. At once it became the largest evening publication in the Twin Cities with the exception of the Journal.
In view of its bold, fearless and independent policy, it is hardly expected that the Star will be as good a business proposition as some of its main competitors in the Minneapolis and St. Paul fields. The first four issues of the paper, however, contain a satisfactory amount of advertising, and the volume of business is bound to increase as the name—Minneapolis Star—becomes more firmly fixed in the public mind.
The stock in the Star corporation is held by upwards of 20,000 persons.
