Mr. Chester A. MacRorie, Editor
Navajo Times
Window Rock, Arizona

Dear Mr. MacRorie,

Please accept belated but no less hearty congratulations on your permanent appointment as Editor of the Navajo Times.

The April 18th issue was forwarded to me some time ago by my good friend, John Reese of the Que-Ma-Ho-Ning Trading Post in Stoystown, Pennsylvania. It isn't that news doesn't travel fast in the East. it's just that I read slow.

I have read several issues of the Navajo Times and I must say that your paper conforms to the highest standards of journalism that we know. In fact, the Navajo Times could well serve as a model to be emulated by much larger communities.

Actually, the Navajo Times has been, in part, the inspiration for a similar but much more modest publication endeavor in New York City.

There are many people in this area who feel that there is room for more news media devoted to the activity of the American Indian.

A group of us have collaborated for the purpose of publishing a monthly newspaper to be called 'AMERICAN INDIAN HORIZON'

It is expected that the first issue will be out in the very near future.

In the strictest sense, it is our belief that newspapers do not really compete. Rather, they supplement each other in their points of view.

We're thankful for the Navajo Times. Our thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Harry Shortey for subscribing to the Navajo Times for us. We enjoy reading them.
