Drunkenness Leads in Charges.
El Centro's police department made fewer arrests during October than in any year since 1934, the monthly report showed Monday. A total of 70 felt the arm of the law during the month, while last year at the same time 97 saw the inside of the city jail.
Drunkenness, disturbing the peace and vagrancy, as usual, led the list of charges. Americans dominated overwhelmingly the list of prisoners, with 51. Only a sprinkling of Creoles, Hindus, Filipinos, Mexicans and Portuguese found themselves at variance with the police.
A third of the prisoners had been in the county a year or more when arrested.
During the month 155 men and six women were certified to the Salvation Army for food and shelter, bringing the total since Feb. 19 to 1336.
Six traffic citations were issued. By the end of the month 23 had served time and ten were still serving. Six were dismissed, two forfeited bail, three sentences were suspended on condition the prisoners leave town, four were suspended on condition of good behavior.
