Camp Hope
After spending ten day romping and frolicking in the woods and fields of Camp John Hope, thirty-three boys and four counsellors returned to the city Thursday afternoon.
While all of the boys showed signs of tiredness and weariness all admitted that a 'good time was had by all'. Although this year saw one of the smallest group of campers go away, the camp may be looked upon as having been highly successful, in that a great many of the campers were first-timers and came back wiser and tanner.
During their stay at camp the 'Y' boys competed in baseball basketball, football, softball, tennis and swimming against teams from Thomaston, Griffin, Montgomery Alabama and came home with most of the laurels.
Those who attended camp included: Lewis Reid, John Davis, Walter Coleman, Henry G. Young, Roosevelt Thomas, Elton Swain, Logan C. Woods, Henry Morris, Jr., Leo Murphy, Roy Hammond, Milton Wimberly, Leroy Barnes, Edward Hyman, Eugene Thomas, Ernest Boswell, William Murphy, Raymond Hammond, Albert Warren, Charles Frye, Harvey Thomas, Oscar Thomas, Daniel Stephens, Addison Lisbon, Phenecia Morris, John Martin, Verdell Charleston, Alvin Stone, Oscar Johnson, James Johnson, Samuel Haygood, William James G. Duston and Charles Reeves.
The counsellors were Messrs. J. D. Winston, Eli Gittens, Carl Hubbard and J. G. Dashiell.
