What is this article about?
Hon. Garrett Davis writes from the House of Representatives on April 18, 1844, to correct a misreported quote from his speech in New York City's Tabernacle on April 12. He clarifies that 32 of the 39 signers of the U.S. Constitution, led by General Washington, supported the constitutionality of a United States Bank, not 32 of the 37 Declaration of Independence signers.

HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
April 18, 1844.
Mr. Editor:—In the havoc which the reporters made in their sketch of the short speech which I made in the Tabernacle, in New York city, the 12th instant, I am made to say: "That, of the thirty-seven delegates who signed the Declaration of Independence, thirty-two of them, together with General Washington, supported the establishment of a United States Bank."
My statement upon this point was this: "That, of the thirty-nine members of the Convention who signed the Constitution of the United States thirty-two, with General Washington at their head, maintained the constitutionality of a Bank of the United States."
You will oblige me by the insertion of this note.
GARRETT DAVIS.
