Full Text

A Whig Postmaster Gone.

Mr. A. Spillard, late postmaster at Economy, in this county, has left for Texas, or some other seaport. Mr. Spillard, was a Whig, however, and so far as his office was concerned acted as a Whig and an honest man should. He appointed a Deputy, to take charge of the office until his successor might be appointed--settled up all the business of the office--left the full amount due the department in the hands of the deputy--told his family that he was going, and about the time of his departure, he passed a group of some ten or twelve of his neighbors, told them he was about to leave them to go, he knew not whither, but if they had any thing to say against it, or any charges whatever to make against him, to "do it now, or forever after hold their peace."

His character, so far as we are informed, is irreproachable. He left on foot, and took with him an only son about 5 years old. Domestic difficulties are said to be the cause of his departure.
