The British are obliged to keep up the game, in order to give some color of equivalent for the many advantages granted by the Prince Regent (of Brazil) to the English trade in South America.
No doubt Mr. Pickering will convince every Englishman in the community that the murder of Pierce--the attack on the Chesapeake--the plunder, robbery, and confiscation of our property--the blockade of our ports--the exclusion of American commerce from the European markets--the exaction of a transit duty on the produce of our soil--are not essential injuries to the honor, interest and independence of the United States.
