"Went Over to Macedonia."

(Anderson Intelligencer.)

A gentleman from Garvin township was in the city on Tuesday, and in conversation with an Intelligencer man, stated that he had learned of the whipping of a negro by a number of white men in his township last Thursday night. The negro has not been heard of or seen since.

From what could be learned, the negro was without a family and lived with his sister on the place of Ed. Johnson, near Henry Martin's store, and had been making some remarks about the wife of one of the white men in that section. A number of the white men heard of what he had said, went to the house of the negro, and, after taking him to a patch of woods, known as Macedonia, whipped him severely and then told him "to hike it," and he hiked it.
