The Daguerreotype.—A young American artist, Mr. A. S. Wolcott, has introduced some very striking improvements in this interesting discovery. He has made an apparatus by which he can take a miniature likeness from life in a more distinct manner than the execution of any specimens we have ever seen. In fact, his portraits are nearly as plainly delineated as though they were drawn upon paper with India ink. Each particular shade of the face and dress is given with astonishing exactness, and if the likeness be examined with a microscope, it presents each fibre of the skin! By the old mode it required some ten or fifteen minutes to perfect a Daguerreotype picture, whereas, with a perfectly clear atmosphere, Mr. A. S. Wolcott only requires a sitting of one minute! One of his best specimens was taken on Thursday last, in forty seconds. We believe he is the first person in this country who has attempted to take likenesses by this process, and we trust he may reap a handsome profit from his enterprise. One has only to visit him on a clear day, at his rooms, 52 First street, and in a very few minutes can be presented with a perfect miniature, in a neat gilt or bronze frame, at a small expense. We have one of his first specimens in our possession, which we should be happy to exhibit to those curious in such matters.—N Y Dispatch and Tattler.
